RECONCILIATION WEEK 2023

Reconciliation week 2023 is commencing 27th of May to 3rd June.

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2023 is ‘Be a Voice for Generations’. It aims to encourage all Australians to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives – where we live, work and socialise.

What can you be a voice for?

  • BE A VOICE FOR LISTENING
  • BE A VOICE FOR UNITY
  • BE A VOICE FOR FAIRNESS
  • BE A VOICE FOR LEARNING
  • BE A VOICE FOR ACTION
  • BE A VOICE FOR TRUTH-TELLING
  • BE A VOICE FOR REFORM
  • BE A VOICE FOR REPRESENTATION
  • BE A VOICE FOR SELF-DETERMINATION
  • BE A VOICE FOR LAND RIGHTS
  • BE A VOICE FOR EQUITY

Examples of actions you can take:

  1. Call out racism.
  2. Purchase Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander art only from Indigenous-owned businesses and call out other businesses exploiting indigenous art.
  3. Invite a local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander elder/person to speak at your organisation, university/school on the topic of recognition and the history of the First Australians in your local area
  4. Speak up and be a voice to schools to ensure your children and further generations are being taught Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and history.
  5. Support First Nations businesses as contractors, suppliers, and producers.

Below are Cullys new initiatives that have been put in place:

  1. Adding an Acknowledgement of Country to our Website
  2. Introducing Cultural Leave for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees when attending cultural ceremonies.
  3. Making donation contributions to the nonprofit organisation ANTAR. This organization Supports Aboriginal communities, and donations go a long way in fostering equity and reconciling the country.

Cullys respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia, and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their elders past and present and  extend that respect to all Aboriginal  and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
